Al-Shafi’i immigrated to Medina to seek knowledge with Imam Malik bin Anas, then he traveled to Yemen and worked in it, then he traveled to Baghdad in the year 184 AH, so he sought knowledge in it with Judge Muhammad bin Al-Hassan Al-Shaibani, and he began studying the Hanafi school of thought, and thus gathered for him the jurisprudence of Hijaz (the school of thought). Al-Shafei returned to Mecca and resided there for almost nine years, and began to teach his lessons in the Great Mosque of Mecca, then traveled to Baghdad for the second time, and presented it in the year 195 AH, and he wrote the book Al-Risala, in which he laid the foundation for the science of the principles of jurisprudence, then he traveled to Egypt in the year 199 AH.
